Appliance Safety

Countertop appliances get hot and draw a lot of power, and small kitchens make both of those easier to get wrong. Plug heating appliances such as air fryers, toaster ovens and rice cookers directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension cord, and avoid running two high-wattage appliances on the same circuit at once. Leave several inches of clearance on every side and above, and do not run an air fryer or toaster oven under a low cabinet, where trapped heat can scorch the cabinet and steam can damage it.

Exterior surfaces, steam vents and baskets stay hot after the cycle ends. Use oven mitts, open rice cooker lids away from your face, and set hot baskets on a heat-safe surface. Keep cords away from the sink and the edge of the counter, where a child or a sleeve can pull them.

Blender and chopper blades are sharp even when the appliance is off. Always unplug before removing blades or reaching into a container, and never run a blender with hot liquids sealed inside. Follow each manufacturer's manual for capacity limits, cleaning, and use around children. Nothing on this site replaces the instructions and safety warnings that come with your appliance.
